The aim of 'Ban Ya Learning Centre Project' one of the Rotary Club of Patong Beach's main service projects, is to ensure the school can operate and thrive by providing funding through money raised locally, and through donations from other Rotary clubs.
Run and administered by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, the school itself provides education in Burmese, Thai and English to the children of Burmese immigrant construction workers living on the island, who cannot enter the Thai School system as they do not speak Thai. The aims of the school as well as providing a safe nurturing educational environment, is to allow these children to ease back into school upon their return to Myanmar. Or eventually transition into local Thai government schools should they remain here.
